Best Halloween Weekend Yet?

Okay, so remember the other night when I asserted that yes, I was attending the Rally to Restore Sanity And/Or Fear, and I was excited? Well, this is what happened. I awoke Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m., raring to go. Shook Zach awake, ate some breakfast, got on the road! We had planned to take the DC metro from the Greenbelt Metro station in Prince George's County, which is about forty-five minutes away. The closer we got to the station, however, the heavier the traffic became. It was bumper-to-bumper about 3 miles from the station. We got to the station, which houses over 3,300 spaces, to find it completely full and having a line that I'm sure was probably longer than any line I've ever seen. Then, it hit us. By the time we wait in the line (surely would take more than an hour, maybe even two) get on the Metro, get to DC (an hour later)... the rally might well be over. Saddened, we got in the car, and drove back to our humble apartment in midtown Baltimore.

We watched the entire rally on TV, however, and it was great. I remain a steadfast fan of Yusuf, and loved Jon's serious speech at the end. "We live in hard times, not end times". So true.

Anyway, with the rally over at three p.m., my thoughts turned to Halloween night. Lindsay texted me and said that our friend Zac (not my Zach, a different Zac!) was going to be Dexter and we were going to be his victims. All we needed was some serious plastic wrap. We traveled out to Parkville and arrived at Home Depot, and with the help of an employee, found a 20 inch by 1000 foot roll of packing plastic. Let's just say our leftovers will be well-contained for the next year or so, either that or we can perform some serious pranks. We mixed up some fake blood and went to town :

All in all, it was a glorious Halloween weekend. Now it's time to get back to work.

Very excited about tomorrow.

I am SO psyched to see these two in person, although it will probably be from very far away. Also, I'm currently watching an episode of Toddlers and Tiaras, and it is completely bizarre.

bleh.

Why this beautiful, talented, tap dancing fashion designer didn't win Project Runway is beyond me. Seriously, Michael Kor(ange)s and Nina "Bitchface" Garcia? You went with the brown, saggy, granny panties collection? Wow. That's all I have to say.

How I know my mom is the best.

Oh, your mom didn't send you a Halloween package filled with assorted delights specifically tailored to your favorite things? Jeez...uh..that must suck. Anyway!

This is a Bacon Bar. This is a rich chocolate bar with bits of applewood smoked bacon in it. It may sound gross to some, or perhaps many, but I am a deep, deep lover of bacon. This candy bar is goddamn delicious, and it'll be all I can do to not eat it all in one sitting.

LION BARS! Okay, I know they look like "Noil" bars in this picture but no matter what they are called, they are the most delicious candy bar. I discovered them when I studied abroad in Ireland and have had severe difficulty finding them stateside. My mom found them, as well as the bacon bar, in a Wegmans. Lucky lady. Anyway, I'll have trouble making these last because they are so tasty.

Beef jerky is one of my favorite things. I know, someone needs to call PETA and alert them to this blog, right? Anyway, this jerky came from California and it is delicious as well.

That concludes the Halloween/my mom is awesome schpiel.

Netflix Quandary

Okay, so I have Netflix, and I generally love it. I mean, I think it's a steal for the price since Zach and I often watch movies and TV shows on the Instant Queue in addition to getting 3 DVDs at a time. However, for the past few months or so, Netflix has caused some confusion in my house. I speak of my desire to watch the 1993 thriller known as Jurassic Park. Now, if I remember correctly (I was six years old when the movie came out), it was a big hit, and very popular. Box office records and all that. Famous movie, parodied all the time. Right? They probably have a couple of copies of it down at the old Netflix HQ, right? Well, Jurassic Park has been number one on my DVD queue for MONTHS and it constantly says "Long Wait" under its availability. For those of you not "in the know" about the 'flix, long waits usually happen when a new, popular movie is available on DVD and Netflix can't meet the demand. I'm guessing Avatar had this problem when it first came out on DVD. But. Jurassic Park is SEVENTEEN YEARS OLD. It is not new. So, Netflix, WHY is there a long wait? It's truly bizarre.

Team Kanye. Forever. Taylor Swift can take her insipid, faux-virginal, "Oh, I'm just the hometown girl in love with all the wrong boys" schtick and shove it. I mean, come on. The man has diamond teeth! DIAMOND TEETH! Also, he's probably my favorite twitter personality.

Also, this:

is how I'd like to spend my Saturdays from now on.

What could be better than a lazy sunday?

I can't remember the last time Zach and I had a lazy Sunday, so today was that day. We woke up around noon, which was wonderful, enjoyed some snacks that he purchased at 7-11 while watching the Bills/Ravens game on TV. I'm not normally a football fan, but it held my interest while I folded laundry and picked up around the house. I realize folding laundry does not sound like a lazy Sunday component to many, but doing laundry relaxes me. I have no idea why. Anyway, during all that I made my special chicken wings, which take forever but are totally worth it. It's an Alton Brown recipe, and all told it takes almost two hours to complete. I don't care though, because they are the greatest wings in the world. Certainly the greatest wings in Baltimore, anyway. I mean, I love it here and it's better than Buffalo/Utica in a lot of ways but the wings (and pizza, for that matter) are seriously lacking.

Now I'm enjoying a cup of tea and preparing for the immigration law mock hearing tomorrow. I can't say what role I'm playing due to someone on the other side who reads this blog, but it should be interesting. Speaking of said person, last night was probably the greatest night of the semester thus far. Some good friends had a party at their awesome apartment, and it was just wonderful. No drama, no weirdness, all fun people who just wanted to have fun. I had a great time, and so did Zach. It was an all-around great night.

Blahhh..I just want to watch Dead Poets Society and drink more tea. Curse you, sense of personal responsibility!

This:

is absolutely true. I have about six cardigans, and I love them all. Cardigans are the best.

Okay, evidence can wait.

A year, in pictures:

First Halloween in Baltimore, as Shaggy and Velma from Scooby-Doo.

Christmas at my parent's house. So much food, it is making me hungry just to look at it.

Zach and I at my parent's house. Got my first real Yankee jersey from my sister.

New Year's Eve in Buffalo.

So good to see all the old Canisius friends.

SNOWMAGEDDON in Baltimore. We lived on the first floor at this point and this was the view out the window.

The parking lot.

The streets. No cars at all, so crazy.

Brief trip to Washington, D.C. to see the sights.

The Vietnam wall, and my attempt at artsy photography.

Moved from the first floor to the sixth floor of our building, and now we have a real view!

I have to wear glasses for most of the summer because of an eye thing. On the upside, I did get cute new ones, so it wasn't so bad.

Trip to NYC to see some law school friends. Me in Strawberry Fields, loving life.

New apartment furniture is exciting.

Winston is still adorable.

I haven't been on this thing in more than a year.

SO, I used to have a blog, but then I went to law school. Following the lead of a good friend (Hi Lindsay!), I've decided to revive this thing and write in it every once in a while when I'm either procrastinating studying or somehow free of work to be done.

I'm not even going to try to summarize what went down over the past year, so I'll make a list. List-making is a hobby of mine. Here's what happened in my life from August 2009 until now.

1. Moved to Baltimore with Zach
2. Started law school
3. Met some cool people, made friends
4. Hated life. Law school is hard.
5. Christmas break! Hooray.
6. Second semester. Grades, not so great. Passed everything, which is probably the most important thing.
7. Summer : Internship! Excitement. Real law office, fun! Summer ends, school starts, sadface.
8. Older sister is pregnant! New niece or nephew in December! Excitement.
9. Second year starts. Way better than first. Evidence is horrible.
10. Evidence midterm TOMORROW. Why am I making a blog post?

So...yup.

Next week is Halloween. Also, it is Jon Stewart/Stephen Colbert's Rally to Restore Sanity/Keep Fear Alive in Washington, D.C. Definitely going, because it's only about an hour away.

Well, we'll see if I update this again, or if I'll just abandon it the same way I abandoned my livejournal account and my diaryland account. I am the worst blog owner ever.

Back to studying!
